March Madness?

March Madness is a popular term for season-ending basketball tournaments played in March. The NCAA basketball teams fight to see who will be crowned the number one team form a single elimination tournament.

Now what's that got to do with your business?

Absolutely nothing.  I just wanted to share that and get your attention.  Ok, no seriously this has a lot to do with your business.  We are entering the month of March in one day and I want March to be a month you focus on your business like never before.  Focus on your marketing, focus on your goals, focus on your bottom line, focus on your focus but more importantly focus on your CUSTOMER.

What makes the NCAA tournaments so interesting?  All of the teams have one goal in mind: To eliminate the competition.  Now, of course you are not going to eliminate all of your competition in business but you can make your business stand out from the crowd by answering these questions:
  • What makes my products different from my competitor's?
  • What makes ME different from my competitors?
  • How can I add more value to my customer's experience that goes beyond selling them products? (Ex: if you sell pet supplies, instead of just selling the product to your customer give them some value and provide them with a list of tips on how to keep their pets off the furniture or how to transition their pet from wet to dry food since it's better for their overall health and less expensive)
A couple of the deciding factors for choosing the winning NCAA team during March Madness are:
  • Road record (What's your record like with your customers? Do you sell them and then just move on?)
  • How a team finishes the regular season (Do you only give special promotions and attention during holiday seasons?)
Think about it ladies and gentlemen. Will you get on the playing field?
